STEVE FOLLOWS A SIMPLE FORMULA: HARD WORK, THOROUGH PREPARATION, AND GENUINE CARE FOR HIS CLIENT.
Since 2004, Steve has limited his law practice to representing individuals and families harmed by others’ misconduct. Since then, he has obtained over $50 million in judgments and settlements for clients in various personal injury cases. With this money, his clients are able to pay for necessary medical treatment, offset lost wages, obtain educational or professional retraining necessary to return to work, and make-up for other harms inflicted by others' misconduct.
Past clients include teachers, nurses, contractors, business owners, homemakers, military personnel, students, law enforcement officers, business executives, and attorneys. Most clients are referred by other attorneys, including defense lawyers from previous cases.
Steve grew up in Kansas City. The son of an elevator constructor, Steve is the first member of his extended family to graduate from college. He earned a degree in Political Science from Washburn University in 1994 and his law degree Washburn School of Law in 1997. Throughout college and law school, Steve volunteered with various community service activities, including working with physically handicapped children and an elementary school literacy program. Steve also played rugby during college and law school.
Eager to experience a different part of the world after law school, Steve served as an attorney on the island of Yap in the western Pacific Ocean. In 2000, after 2½ years on Yap, he moved to San Diego.
Steve then worked for two prominent defense firms, representing physicians in medical malpractice cases and various defendants in personal injury lawsuits. Steve learned defense attorneys' and insurance companies' methods of evaluating, minimizing, and repelling claims brought by the victims of wrongful conduct. But, he became dissatisfied with representing individuals and companies that were trying to escape responsibility for hurting others.
Steve periodically gives presentations to attorneys, law students, health care providers, and community organizations on various aspects of practicing law, trial skills, patient safety, and the role of our justice system. Visit 'Community Service’ to learn about some of Steve’s past speaking engagements.
Outside of the office, Steve enjoys time with his wife and two children, surfing, camping, mountain biking, coaching youth sports, and other outdoor activities.
